It seems awareness is growing around the fact that some people are ultra-sensitive to energy in their surroundings, both from the environment and other people.
Psychics certainly place themselves in this group, as once you start to open up your sixth senses and intuitive awareness, it makes you much more open to receiving and sensing the energy of sentient beings everywhere!
This sensitivity is certainly an asset when it comes to psychic work, and is safe when you’re in a controlled environment. But out in the big wide world, it can become cumbersome and overwhelming to be so “open” all the time, and if you aren’t using the tools you have to ground, release and protect your energy, it can be easy to become over-stimulated and short-circuit.
So, here are some ways that I personally rely on to manage psychic burnout:
Managing psychic burnout tip #1: Keep the nervous system calm and relaxed
This is the most important key, really, as our nervous system is the storehouse for all the energy we receive. When we take on any energy from our external environment, it’s important to have practices and tools to rely on that help you come back to center, de-stress and find a place of calm. Meditation, slow movement like tai-chi or hatha yoga, a relaxing bath, breathing exercises- these are some simple ways to settle your nervous system down and return to a state of calm energy.
Managing psychic burnout tip #2: Drink lots of water (always)
I can’t stress the importance enough of drinking water, not just for its health purposes, but also because of its ability to shift, carry and transmute energy! Drinking water flushes out residual build up in your system, including energetic residue that you’ve collected from the environment. Water is also a great way to ground yourself as it’s direct from the Earth! The first place always to start, if you’re feeling a little off, overwhelmed, anxious, etc- drink more water.
Managing psychic burnout tip #3: Focus on good nutrition and stay away from sugars
If you feel sensitive to the environment around you, just imagine how sensitive your inner environment is! Good nutrition that lessens (or eliminates!) sugars and processed foods is so valuable for our overall health, but also to support our nervous system’s ability to return to homeostasis and encourage the release of built-up toxins that can impede and inhibit our natural senses and abilities. Treat your body like the vessel for wisdom and Spirit that it is!
Managing psychic burnout tip #4: Showers help remove energetic residue
Water is so good at helping manage psychic burnout, we had to mention it twice! Not only do you need to drink lots and lots of it, but bathing in it, especially under moving water like a shower (or waterfall if you’re lucky enough!) can actually wash away the energetic residue you’ve built up. Water is a receptive energy, it has intelligence, a Spirit- as you shower you can ask the water to help you remove any psychic debris or energy that does not belong to you.
Managing psychic burnout tip #5: Ground yourself especially if you’re feeling flighty
When we’re in our psychic awareness, we are energetically lifted up into our third eye and crown chakras to access the information. That can become hard when we need to come back to Earth and get the bills paid. If you’re at all psychically sensitive, it’s important to incorporate grounding practices into your daily routine. These can help especially when you’re feeling flighty or scatterbrained.
