As Boston’s Top Psychic I have spent over 25 years honing my gifts. I have had to work to manage my own sensitivity to my spiritual gifts, but I have also developed methods to help coach others and help them manage their own psychic sensitivity.
Symptoms of psychic sensitivity include receiving intuitive messages, strong gut feelings, or mirroring another person’s emotional state. If you are awakening to psychic sensitivity you may notice that you sometimes feel a significant shift in your emotional state without knowing why. Or you feel suddenly drawn to or repulsed by a person, activity, or even an object.
Psychic sensitivity can also show itself in more subtle ways like headaches, sudden overwhelm, or anxiety. It can sometimes be difficult to deal with crowds, or to be in places with a difficult history (like a former battlefield or a plantation). These can all be symptoms of your connection with other people’s emotions or to spirit energy.
In my experience as Boston’s Top Psychic I have come across many clients that are sensitive, but who have a lot of difficulty making sense of their gifts. They sometimes attempt to ignore or cut off this part of their nature. But this is usually does more damage than help.
Instead, it’s important to embrace your own sensitivity, but to manage it by creating self-care habits that let you stay in control over your own energy. There are a lot of ways to do this, but possibly the best three ways to manage your psychic sensitivity are these:
Learn to Ground and Center Yourself
Learning to ground and center yourself can help you connect with the rooted energy of the earth. This can help you feel more present and grounded, instead of the otherworldly or disconnected feeling that sometimes comes with psychic sensitivity.
The easiest way to ground yourself by standing tall and still on the earth. I recommend doing this as often as you can.
At times of year where it isn’t possible to be outside, you can take grounding baths, especially if you add epsom salts or bath oils using earthy scents (sandalwood, cedarwood, frankincense & myrrh). You can also meditate on grounding themes like imagining yourself as a tree rooted in the earth. All these methods bring you back into the here and now.
Create Energetic Boundaries
No one can be an open conduit for spirit energy all the time. If you are receiving spiritual communication, it’s good to try and set boundaries. Let your guides know that you are willing to hear them, but that you can’t be a conduit all the time. A good boundary to set, for example, is to ask them not to interrupt your sleep.
Most guides or departed loved ones will honor boundaries as long as you’re willing to hear them out at other times. In my experience, most people who have sudden or frightening encounters with guides or passed family members have been ignoring attempts to get a message across.
You may also want to learn how to shield yourself when you are in public. This guards against picking up the emotions of others or stray energy. Before you begin your day, spend a few minutes imagining yourself surrounded in a bubble of white light. State to yourself that this light will be with you all day to provide you with protection. Throughout the day, turn your thoughts back to your protective ball of white light to strengthen it.
